Banking Certificates

The financial industry has been identified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as an industry where employment will continue to grow. Union Institute & University has partnered with the Tri-State Center for Financial Training (CFT), a 110 year old, non-profit American Bankers Association (ABA) accredited training organization, to offer two new certificates in banking: Certificate in General Banking and Certificate in Banking Operations.

Each certificate combines college courses in business, writing, math, accounting, and microeconomics  with specific CFT banking courses that have received credit from the American Bankers Association and credit recommendations by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Certificate Overview

  • Fully online coursework.
  • Completion of CFT sponsored courses also qualifies students for American Bankers Association diplomas.
  • For students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree, the completion of each certificate provides a transcript which recognizes 40 - 41.25 college credits, depending on the certificate.

Previously Earned CFT Diplomas

Students who have already completed an aligned banking diploma through CFT are eligible for the appropriate certificate by completing the additional courses through UI&U.  The banking certificates from UI&U demonstrate completion of both college-level course work and targeted banking knowledge, enhancing the value of your diploma and providing additional earned credits toward an undergraduate degree.

Admission / Tuition

  • Student can apply for the banking certificate program at any time, even if currently studying at UI&U or CFT.
  • Download application for the banking certificates.
  • Students must enroll in both institutions.
  • Tuition and fees will be charged according to the rates set by each institution.

No admission testing is required. Upon completion of all required courses, UI&U will issue a certificate of completion for the appropriate banking certificate. Courses taken through CFT have been approved by ACE (American Council on Education) and will be recognized by UI&U.  Application can be made at any point in their course of study with either CFT or UI&U.

Each certificate requires the student enroll and complete a minimum of 16 hours of selected courses from UI&U, in addition to selected CFT courses. UI&U will accept up to four hours of previous earnred credit toward a banking certificate. To be awarded a certificate, all courses and credits will reviewed for approval and recognition by UI&U.
