Trouble with APA, Chicago, or MLA?

Google Scholar@UI&U is a great tool for kick-starting your research. It allows you to simultaneously search many of the UI&U Library’s article databases as well as web-based scholarly resources such as legal opinions, online repositories, and other university websites.
Many students love Google Scholar@UI&U because it combines the search functionality and familiar interface of Google with the high quality, scholarly resources within the UI&U Library. Google Scholar@UI& U also has many helpful tools for researchers, including “cited by” links, date limiters, RefWorks and Zotero citation tool integration, preformatted citations, email alerts for new articles, author profiles, and other search features.

Spotlight: Opposing Viewpoints Database

All too often, these opinions are split along traditional socio-economic lines without being thoroughly researched or considered. However, critical thinking and civil political discourse requires us to actively explore and consider alternative perspectives.

Whether you are researching a topic out of personal interest or required to include an opposing perspective in an academic paper, the UI&U Library’s Opposing Viewpoints in Context database can help you find the necessary background information. The database has topic pages on a variety of controversial issues such as gun control, abortion, same-sex marriage, capital punishment, nuclear energy, immigration, and more. Each topic page includes opposing viewpoints, reference materials, historical information, journal articles, and statistics that you can use to begin your research.

The Opposing Viewpoints database can be accessed from the UI&U Library’s all databases page (Library Homepage->Articles & Databases tab->All Databases link). For assistance using Opposing Viewpoint, please contact a librarian.

This online workshop provides a basic introduction to the multiple resources and services provided by the UI&U Library, followed by a tour of the library website. Highly recommended for new users, those unfamiliar with online databases, and those looking for a quick library refresher.

The UI&U Library contains millions of resources—including 130,000+ e-books-- that are available for free to the UI&U community. Dissertation, article, and e-book searches will be touched upon. Recommended for anyone looking to increase their research skills and/or familiarize themselves with the UI&U Library website.

The UI&U Library provides resources to help you to create, format, and manage bibliographies, citations, footnotes, and endnotes. We'll also visit the APA, MLA, and Chicago style pages.

Spotlight: SAGE Premier

One of the most respected library databases, the SAGE Premier database contains over 645 peer-reviewed journals in Business, Criminal Justice, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Medicine, including new or expanded coverage for the Journal of Human Lactation, Qualitative Inquiry and many other sought-after, high-impact journals. The coverage for most journals is 1999 to the present, making SAGE Premier an excellent resource for current research. The UI&U Library recommends SAGE Premier as one of the top nine multidisciplinary databases.

SAGE Premier can be accessed from the databases by subject page (Library Homepage->Articles & Databases tab->Databases by Subject link).
