Integrating Library Resources into Your Course (Unit 2)

The library provides a variety of services and resources to support faculty in their mission of providing UI&U students with an enriching educational experience:

Letters of Welcome: The UI&U Library sends letters of welcome to incoming students.  Our goal is to reach students as soon as they enroll and provide them with the resources and services they need to be successful in their academic programs.  We also contact faculty and staff members upon hire and invite them to a personal library orientation.

Course & Academic Residency Presentations: Library staff members give dozens of course and academic residency presentations throughout the year.  If your course includes a library or research component, we would be happy to provide a custom-designed presentation.  To arrange a presentation, please contact the library.

Help Center: The library Help Center includes an extensive collection of research guides on finding scholarly resources, citations, search strategies, and more.

Ask a Librarian (On-Demand Research Assistance): UI&U Librarians are available to assist both you and your students.  We can be reached via phone, email, and live chat, and we also provide video conferencing with screen sharing.

UI&U Library Research Guide: The UI&U Library Research Guide is a comprehensive, online self-tutorial about researching and using the library.  The research guide consists of ten modules: 1) Using the UI&U Library, 2) Identifying Sources, 3) Choosing a Topic, 4) Searching Basics, 5) Finding Books, 6) Finding Articles, 7) Evaluating Sources, 8) Citing Sources, 9) Using Primary Sources, and 10) Research Strategy Exercise.  It serves as an excellent course assignment.

Syllabus Links: Articles, e-books, and other library resources can be added to your syllabus.  Unit 4 describes how you can create links to these resources.

Collection Development: We welcome faculty e-book and journal purchase recommendations.  Unit 5 describes how you can be involved in building the UI&U Library collection.
