Transfer Credit Policies
In addition to academic credits from other universities, UI&U also allows specific work experience to count toward your college degree. Please view our comprehensive list of Transfer Credit & Tuition Agreements for more information.
Union Institute & University accepts academic credit earned at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions as appropriate to the student's program requirements or individual degree/study plan. For program specific transfer practices, students should refer to the current university catalog. An official transcript from the transferring institution is required at the time of application.
Courses accepted in transfer are not calculated into the UI&U student's grade-point average. UI&U operates on a semester credit hour system. Courses taken at colleges or universities operating on the quarter system are converted to semester credit hours.
In addition to credits earned at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions, UI&U undergraduate programs accept, as transcripted credit, recommendations from many nationally recognized sources. These include, but are not limited to: the American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations, Advanced Placement Program (AP), CLEP General and Subject Examinations, and DANTES exams. Learning acquired as a result of participation in some continuing education courses or credits from non-accredited institutions can be evaluated and applied as transfer credit the certified learning process or through articulation agreements.
Developmental, remedial courses/credits, or continuing education units (CEU) credit are not accepted in transfer to UI&U. Refer to the specific academic program's student handbook for transfer credit policies unique to a particular program or study.
Transferability of credit to other institutions is at the discretion of the accepting institution. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm whether or not another institution will accept credits earned at Union Institute & University.
