Major Brooks began his career with the Hollywood Police Department in 1982 where he was originally assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1983, he moved to the Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit where he served as a Detective. After eight years, he was assigned to the Youth Services Division as a School Resource Officer where he actively participated with the Police Athletic League, and initiated a "Drug Talk" Program while serving as the Youth Crime Watch Coordinator.
In 1993, Danzell was assigned to the South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit where he served as liaison between the South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Agency and the Secret Service. He was promoted to Sergeant in February 2000. He held positions in Patrol, the Crime Suppression Unit, South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit, and Internal Affairs. Danzell is the Commander of the Crisis Negotiation Team and currently serves as training coordinator for the unit.
During the course of his career, Danzell has moved up the ranks, being promoted to Lieutenant in 2005, assigned to the Special Operations Unit, and being made a Captain in 2006. with COP Division/District 1 Special Operations. In August 2008, Danzell was promoted to Major and is currently the commander of the COP Division/Special Operations. In July 2009, in addition to the COP Division, Danzell was assigned as commander of the Robbery, Burglary and Child Exploitation Divisions.
Danzell was awarded the Crime Stoppers Award in 1987 in recognition of Outstanding Contribution and Support for Effective Law Enforcement. In 2000, under Danzell's direction, Neighborhood Team 5 was awarded the first Departmental COPPS Award. Danzell has received numerous internal and external Letters of Recognition and Department Commendations to include, Community Involvement, Continuous Service, Unit Citation, Good Conduct, Distinguished Expert, and Chief's Special Recognition Award. He is a member of the Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators (F.A.H.N.) and National Organization for Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
As a member of the Hollywood Police Department Dignitary Protection Team, Danzell has served on Presidential and Dignitaries Security Details providing security for Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Sr., Jessie Jackson, Hillary Clinton, Yolanda King, Carol Mosley Braum, and Barak Obama.
