Dr. Ellen Cole received her Master's degree in Counseling from Harvard University in 1964 and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Union Institute in 1976. She has been a faculty member, program director, and academic dean with appointments at the University of Vermont, Goddard College, Yale University, Prescott College, and most recently Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, where she was awarded Professor Emerita status. Dr. Cole has taught, published and presented on issues relating to the psychology of gender, feminist psychology, human sexuality, and more recently Positive Psychology. For 13 years she co-edited the journal Women & Therapy and a book series titled Innovations in Feminist Studies. She is a licensed psychologist and maintained a sex therapy practice for the past 35 years. She has also been active in professional associations, serving as president of the Alaska Psychological Association and APA's Division 35, the Society for the Psychology of Women. She is currently enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology. She considers teaching undergraduate and graduate students her art form, and credits the education she received at Union with teaching her how to learn and teaching her the value of passionate scholarship.
