Affiliated faculty James P. Murphy retired as a Lieutenant II from the Los Angeles Police Department after completing more than 29 years of dedicated service. During this time he developed a variety of law enforcement experiences, from front line riotous situations, investigative and managerial assignments, planning, investigations, designing and implementation of various "game plans" and community orientated policing. Throughout his career, particularly as a supervisor, manager and administrator, he performed in the role of instructor/mentor, identifying and implementing a variety of training programs. He was a instructor for the LAPD, LA County Sheriff's Department and participated in a variety of management and deployment programs. He has a master's degree in the Administration of Justice and a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminology. He received his teaching credentials from the California State University at Long Beach and California Lutheran University.
Currently, he teaches at Moorpark College, Union Institute & University and College of Western Idaho in a variety of criminal justice programs/courses. Additionally, he has developed courses for DHS (TSA) in Criminal Justice and Behavioral Sciences and various law enforcement agencies. For the last six years, he has worked as an affiliated faculty member for Union Institute & University, specializing in educating criminal justice personnel. These assignments have kept him up-to-date with current concepts and trends in the educational field.
