Lee grew up on the shores of New Jersey, but warmer weather and a job opportunity with the Fort Lauderdale Police called in 1982. During his 27 year career, he worked his way up through the ranks, retiring as a captain. Lee served primarily in operational, tactical/SWAT, training and administrative roles. He attended a wide variety of training courses, including several command level schools such as SPI, and earned instructor certification in ten areas.
During his early adult years, Lee attended college but like so many other working adults, did not complete his degree. In 2002, he discovered Union Institute & University; under the guidance of Dr. Paul Baldauf, he quickly finished his BA in Public Administration, earning cum laude recognition. His capstone was recognized with Union's Bronze academic award.
Within months of graduation, Lee was looking for a master's program and entered a Justice Administration program at Norwich University. Upon completion, he also earned cum laude recognition.
