I was never what you would call a “traditional student” and I always had a tough time focusing in school. I ended up dropping out of high school in the 10th grade and I never thought college would be in my future. Working eight hours a day and being a full-time mom didn't leave much room in my schedule to attend school full-time.
Then one day a co-worker told me about Union. I was so inspired listening to her talk about her education. She actually had time to work, go to school, and have a family. Sign me up!
The best thing about Union was the flexibility and the individualized attention I received. I had the opportunity to work one-to-one with my professors and in small classroom groups and it really helped me grasp and actually learn what I was studying.
Going to Union and completing my degree has made me so proud of myself. Before Union I was a youth specialist at Easter Seals. After I completed my bachelor’s degree, I was promoted to case manager.
The whole experience taught me to set no limits on my career, my life, or my education. The completion of my degree was completely up to me and I feel like I can apply that knowledge to my life and my career. In my current job I work to protect children who are victims of abuse and poverty and recruit foster and adoptive parents. I really feel like I'm making a difference in the lives of families and children in my community.
