Dr. Michael O'Neal (Ph.D. 1983)

Dr. Michael O'NealDr. O’Neal recently stepped down from his presidency at H. Lavity Stoutt College in the British Virgin Islands, but leaves a lasting legacy of educational reform and policy at an institution that upholds its mission to improve the quality of life for its students and community.

During his tenure at the college, he was often praised for his unique style of leadership and for making students his number one priority. In addition to effecting change for four years as Lavity Stoutt’s president, he also served the college as vice president from 1993 to 2005.

Prior to his association with the college, Dr. O’Neal worked as first resident tutor and head of the University of the West Indies Centre in the British Virgin Islands. In addition, from 1997 to 2004, Dr. O’Neal served as graduate faculty at UI&U. He is also an alumnus of the Higher Education Leadership Program of Harvard University's Institute for Educational Management.

Dr. O’Neal is a member of several professional associations and learned societies, and is a fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute (U.K.) and the American Anthropological Association.
