Less than three hours northwest of Boston and two hours south of Montreal, Union's Vermont Academic Center in Montpelier sits along a beautiful grass commons surrounded by historic New England clapboard houses, some of which served as a Civil War hospital. The smallest state capital in the United States, Montpelier offers excellent restaurants, specialty shopping, live music and local arts that make it a great place to live and learn.
Visit one of the four independently owned bookstores or two movie houses, or browse the artisan shops and exhibits, as well as the T.W. Wood Art Gallery, located right on campus, or stroll through Montpelier's ever popular Capital City Farmer's Market. Be sure to dine in Montpelier's restaurants or discover critically acclaimed cuisine in neighboring towns. For some reflective time, take a walk along the wooded trails at Hubbard Park.
If learners are inclined to enjoy the outdoors, they can find excellent camping, biking, fishing, skiing and snowboarding, swimming, kayaking and touring within minutes of downtown.
UI&U's Vermont Academic Center in Montpelier is home to the Bachelor of Arts, Online Master of Arts and Master of Education programs. Learners come for brief residencies in the low-residency options. They may stay in campus dormitories or at nearby hotels. Food is prepared by students of The New England Culinary Institute, who always provide vegetarian options in their creative and delectable menu offerings
