B.A. Arts Concentration

Art can take you on a personal journey of discovery or lead you to a new career. Adult learners of all abilities undertake studies in painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture, collage, textiles, new media, and the performing arts, among others.

Established artists are able to refine their studio practice and develop portfolios, while beginners can reclaim their creativity and learn basic artistic techniques. Studio studies are combined with research and writing projects so that students’ creative work is explored in the context of the relevant dialogue in art history and/or visual culture.

Each student takes part in a one-on-one dialogue with a faculty member and participates in group discussions with other students and faculty, either face to face in our Vermont weekend option (convenient for residents of New England) or during the week-long Colloquium option or online.

In the context of a Liberal Studies degree, the study of art provides great preparation for many careers. Many of our learners who graduate with a concentration in art go on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree.
