Frank Scala was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts; a Master’s of Education in Administration and Supervision with a minor in Curriculum and Instruction; and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. He joined the faculty, as a full-time professor in the education department, of the Florida Center in August of 2006.
Prior to joining Union Institute & University, Frank served in many roles in the public school systems in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Frank started his teaching career in 1971 as a sixth grade teacher. From there he was first elected as Team leader and later promoted to assistant principal. Seeing school administration in his future he was soon on his way to becoming an Elementary School Principal in Kensington, New Hampshire. He remained in that position for thirteen years when he decided to take a personal hiatus from education and open a deli in Naples, Florida. The deli business was short lived, when Frank decided to return to New Hampshire to become Director of Special Education in Bristol, NH. This was the first of many central office positions Frank has held: He became Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent and finally Superintendent of Schools in Kingston, NH. During those years, Frank had the opportunity to study important educational issues facing our schools today. He is particularly interested in the effects of No Child Left Behind on the public school system.
Personal interests include reading and collecting antique first edition novels. He sees this passion becoming his sanity in his retirement, which he claims is still many years away.
