Master of Arts with Concentrations in Psychology & Counseling

Program Overview
master of arts with concentrations in psychology image The mission of the Master of Arts (M.A.) with Concentrations in Psychology and Counseling program is to educate future psychologists and counselor practitioners to identify and treat psychological problems and issues in a variety of clinical, educational, and workplace settings.

The program is designed specifically to offer the traditional courses and supervised internship experiences that are increasingly required by state and national agencies and credentialing bodies. Working with a team of faculty advisors who hold doctoral degrees and possess relevant practitioner experience, you'll engage in critical inquiry, thoroughly examine and interact with the literature, theory, and research, and pursue and share the results of applied research.

Prospective learners hold an interest in

  • Pursuing a career in psychology or mental health at a master’s level.
  • Seeking graduate training in preparation for doctoral work in psychology, counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Studying psychology or counseling to broaden professional knowledge and skills in another applied field such as business, nursing, or education.

Learners who graduate from the counseling psychology or clinical mental health counseling tracks meet course work requirements for national certification by the National Board for Certified Counselors GSA-NCC as a counselor and are eligible to sit for the national exam while in their final term..

Note: Completion of the M.A. degree does not automatically qualify learners for certification or licensure. Prospective psychology or counseling learners should consult the appropriate state or national regulatory agency regarding their requirements and processes for application.
