National Board Propositions Embedded into Our M.Ed. Curriculum
Union Institute & University's M.Ed. program embeds at least one of the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS) propositions into each course. It is our belief that these foundational themes prepare teachers to be premier educators and leaders in the classroom. Completing the M.Ed. program at UI&U does not include NBPTS certification, however, graduates will be fully prepared to participate in the certification process offered through National Board. Additionally, students will be cognizant of those pedagogical skills and technological resources that support highly accomplished teachers.

  • Proposition 1: Teachers are Committed to Students and Their Learning
  • Proposition 2: Teachers Know the Subjects They Teach and How to Teach Those Subjects to Students
  • Proposition 3: Teachers are Responsible for Managing and Monitoring Student Learning
  • Proposition 4: Teachers Think Systematically about Their Practice and Learn from Experience
  • Proposition 5: Teachers are Members of Learning Communities
