Union Institute & University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. UI&U is authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents and the Vermont Board of Education to grant the Psy.D. degree with a concentration in clinical psychology.
Accreditation
The program’s development was guided by the American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation standards (Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology), but it is not APA accredited. The Psy.D. program submitted its self-study as an initial application to the APA Commission on Accreditation in September 2011.
For further information on APA accreditation, contact the Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation at the American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242, 202.336.5979. You can also find more information about accreditation at: What Students Should Know About APA Accreditation.
Licensing
The practice of professional psychology is regulated in all states, with specific requirements varying from state to state. If you intend to seek licensure or certification to practice psychology independently and without supervision, check the requirements for licensure or certification in the state in which you plan to practice prior to enrollment in the Psy.D. program. The Psy.D. program is designed to meet most state psychology licensure board requirements and establish graduates’ eligibility for psychologist licensure in states that do not require graduation from an American Psychological Association accredited program. However, we cannot ensure any graduate will obtain a state license. Information on state licensing can be found at The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) Web site.
