Basic Technology Requirements

Technology Proficiency -
The following documents will help you become more technically proficient.  Although some of the documents are not for the version you are using, many of the theories and steps are similar.

• General Computer Operational Skills
• Windows Anatomy and Management
• File Management
• E-mail (XP version but much is still applicable)
• Research Databases
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• PowerPoint

Learners planning to take online classes while attending UI&U must meet the following computer requirements for their home computers.  These requirements will be reviewed, and possibly updated, annually.   Please be certain your computer meets these minimum requirements when calling the Help Desk.

Potential learners may choose to take the Technology Readiness Survey.

Windows Computers

• Operating System(s): Windows XP or Vista
• Internet Browser(s): Internet Explorer 6 or 7
• Office Software: Microsoft Office XP, 2003 or 2007, or OpenOffice.org 3 (if saving in Microsoft Office compatible formats)

Apple Computers

• Operating Systems(s): Mac OS 10 (also called Mac OS X)
• Internet Browser(s): Firefox 2 or 3
• Office Software: Microsoft Office X, 2004 or 2008, or OpenOffice.org 3 (if saving in Microsoft Office compatible formats)

The following computers and software are specifically NOT supported

• Any computers (Apple or for Windows) built prior to March 2001 (this pre-dates Windows XP and Mac OS X)
• Any Windows OS prior to XP
• Any Mac OS prior to Mac OS X (version 10)
