Faculty can upload learner documents to the Turnitin website and use the service to scan papers for plagiarism. The search Turnitin conducts looks for an identical match of content between the submitted work and every paper submitted to Turnitin, all internet webpages, and the articles of online journals. Turnitin then produces a report showing instances of near and exact matches along a color-coded continuum. Please note that even if exact matches are found, it may be that the sources are not properly cited. Alternatively, faculty can encourage learners to first submit papers to Turnitin and make additional revisions based on the reports, before submitting their papers.
Creating an Account
Turnitin requires a faculty member to create an account and then link that account to the institutional account to be able to upload papers and get the resulting reports. Please contact an Instructional Technologist for information on how to create your own faculty account to Turnitin.
