Apply for Financial Aid

The first step in applying for financial aid is to apply for admission to Union Institute & University.  The federal government requires that any learner seeking financial aid must be first admitted to a degree seeking program.

The second step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.  By submitting the FAFSA, the Department of Education will be able to calculate your eligibility for aid programs based on your estimated family contribution.  You must specify Union Institute & University’s school code:  010923 so that the results of the FAFSA may be sent to the school.

You may complete the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA by going to fafsa.ed.gov.

When your FAFSA has been processed, you will receive via email or mail a Student Aid Report containing the information you provided on the FAFSA as well as the results.

The Office of Financial Aid will receive the results of the FAFSA and based on this information, a financial aid award letter will be prepared and sent to you specifying the types of funding you have been awarded.   You can generally expect to receive a financial aid award letter approximately 10 days after you have received the Student Aid Report as long as you have added our school code, 010923.

The Office of Financial Aid recommends filing the FAFSA by March 15th of each academic year as a priority deadline for many federal and state programs.

RENEWAL OF FINANCIAL AID
Returning learners will receive an email when their financial aid award letter is ready for the next academic year.

Financial Aid awards cannot be sent to learners until each learner's satisfactory academic progress to ensure the minimum requirements (mandated by the Department of Education) have been met.  This review requires that we wait until the end of the last term of the academic year (located on your previous award letter) until grades are reviewed.  Please see the Satisfactory Academic Progress page for more detail.

Personal Identification Number (PIN)
You will need a U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN) available at the Department of Education’s Pin Registration site to use as your electronic signature when you file your FAFSA online. Your PIN allows you to access your FAFSA results online, make FAFSA corrections, and access your student loan history through the Department of Education's National Student Loan Database. The Federal Student Aid PIN gives you access to personal information and therefore should be kept private. You should not share your PIN with anyone, even if that person is helping you fill out the FAFSA. Remember your PIN! You will use this same PIN for future online FAFSAs and the many different actions regarding your student aid records. If you have questions regarding your PIN you may visit the PIN registration site or call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).
