Francis FrancoisFrancis was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and his family left the country when he was only two years old. Though very proud of his Haitian decent, he has never been back. He is a proud graduate of Miami Central Sr. High and as a product of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system, he is proof that public schools still work. Francis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Knoxville College, in Knoxville, TN; He is currently working on his graduate degree with Union Institute & University’s online Master’s program. He is focusing on a degree in Leadership, Public Policy & Social Issues. He joined the Florida Academic Center Admissions staff in August 2006.
Prior to his time at Union Institute & University, Francis was employed by the United Teachers of Dade (UTD). At UTD he caught his first glimpse of Union Institute & University, and the “adult learner”. Adult and distant learning were new concepts to him and while employed by UTD, he worked with the Educational Programs department where he promoted UI&U’s Ph.D. program to our union members and union members across the country. The program was very successful for the UTD members as well as UI&U. After some restructuring, UTD downsized the Educational Programs department. Francis was kept on as a Special Assistant to the President, and then Member Organizer. His position as member organizer allowed him the opportunity to understand the importance of relationship building. His success as a member organizer and recruiter was dependent on being able to build trusting relationships.
As time passed and union elections happened, Francis decided to look back into the field of marketing and higher education. The Florida Academic Center of UI&U was the perfect fit for him. He has been at UI&U for two years and describes his time here as "incredible". "The best part of my day is sitting with a prospective learner. I like to feel like I am there to help them accomplish something that can set them on a new path in life. That 'Personal Touch' that we offer our students is really what distinguished UI&U from other universities in the area." Again building trusting relationships, Francis has found satisfaction in his position.
He describes his personal life as "very quiet". He is the father of a lovely, ten year-old son, Bradley Francois. In his spare time he enjoys writing and watching sports programming, particularly the Dallas Cowboys. He also coaches little league football for the Miramar Wolverines. He is heavily involved with many civic and professional organizations. They include: The 5000 Role Models of Excellence, Miami-Dade Chapter of the NAACP, Greater Miami Urban League and Higher Education Partnership of Southeast Florida (HEPSEF).
