Cristy Sugarman spent much of her early life travelling with her father, who was a chief master sergeant in the United States Air Force. When he retired and married Cristy’s stepmother in England, Cristy transferred out of the military middle school into a private girl’s school in Oxford. She then spent the next 12 years in London, interspersed with brief periods of living in Spain and France.

Cristy first earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Greenwich in London, and then received a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics. She then tried out various careers before going to work for a large French corporation, during which time she became the corporation’s United Kingdom marketing director. Cristy then decided to repatriate and moved to Vermont in 2002, coming to work for UI&U later that year.  She is currently director of Union’s Lifelong Learning department, and is also working toward earning her Doctor of Education through Union’s Ed.D. program.
