Union Institute & University is proud to welcome America’s veterans, active duty military, and their dependants into our academic programs.  As a military friendly school, you will find UI&U’s programs are designed to allow you to maintain your busy schedule and commitments while completing your degree.

GI Bill
UI&U assists our learner services members with educational opportunities available from all VA Chapters offering education benefits. We are particularly pleased to announce our participation in the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) and the Yellow Ribbon Program. Beginning, August 1, 2009 we will provide generous tuition assistance for master’s and doctoral degree seeking learners that qualify for education assistance under the Yellow Ribbon Program of the Post 9/11 GI Bill.

Yellow Ribbon Program
As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, UI&U will work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to fund tuition costs above the highest in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The partnership will allow UI&U’s graduate programs’ tuition and fees to be matched by the VA and will result in free tuition and fees for eligible veterans. It also allows for the benefit to be transferable to a spouse or dependant.

Yellow Ribbon Eligibility
Veterans with active duty service after September 10, 2001 may be eligible for Yellow Ribbon benefits at UI&U if:

• They are entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements)
• Serve a period of at least 90 aggregate days
• Serve a period of at least 30 days and receive a disability discharge
• Individuals are eligible while on active duty after serving a period of 90 days

Please note: UI&U can award Yellow Ribbon benefits to the first 10 eligible veterans who apply to our master's or doctoral programs. Please read the details concerning the Yellow Ribbon First Come First Serve Policy.
