My work to support UI&U's mission of social relevance:
I entered Union's BA program as a working adult and have adopted its social relevance mission as my own. I reflect often on the social implications of my knowledge, behavior, and resources. I want to share what I have to make the world a better place. I have always had a desire to improve the world and make a socially significant difference and I came to believe that obtaining a formal education could help make that happen.

A formal education did help - it changed me - it gave me confidence that I had not previously experienced. I became confirmed in the notion that working to make the world a better place is something I could do and that it is what everyday living is all about. The best reason I know to get out of bed every morning is to make today the best day. Education can help us do that. Knowledge is best formed within the groundwork of social relevance where a better world can begin to be built as we make wise choices on a daily bases, as we begin to see the needs around us and get actively involved in helping people in need, as we become willing to utilize our time, talents, and confidences to help change someone else’s life for the better, and as we become willing to share from own scarce, precious resources for that end. The social relevance mission will be exhibited in our everyday as we become awakened to, and more aware of the fragile world in which we live, and the fragile people we live with.  There go my purpose for supporting adult education and UI&U's mission.
