About the Director

richard searsRichard Sears, PsyD, MBA, ABPP, received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Raj Soin College of Business, and received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is lead author of the book Consultation Skills for Mental Health Professionals and is co-author of “The Clinical Uses of Mindfulness” in the book Innovations in Clinical Practice.

Dr. Sears is a licensed psychologist in the state of Ohio (#6272) and is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He is also a member of the board of the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology. Dr. Sears is a full-time core faculty member of the Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology at Union Institute & University, and is also adjunct faculty at Wright State University School of Professional Psychology. He runs a small private psychology and consulting practice (www.psych-insights.com)

Richard is also a fifth degree black belt in Ninjutsu (receiving the warrior name Watoshi), a licensed private pilot, and received past certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. He once served as a personal protection agent for the Dalai Lama of Tibet with his teacher, Stephen Jien Hayes. He has studied the Eastern Wisdom traditions extensively (Buddhism, meditation, Tendai mikkyo, Vajrayana, etc.), receiving the ordination name of Jisho. He has traveled in India and Nepal, and is currently studying Zen and the koan system under Paul Dochong Lynch, JDPSN, in the lineage of Seung Sahn.
