Since 1986, Dr. Stanley has been a student of Buddhism in both the Theravada and Mahayana linages. She received training as a Community Dharma Teacher from Gil Fronsdal and Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and she is the Guiding Teacher at Vermont Insight Meditation Center. There, Dr. Stanley teaches courses in Buddhist thought and practice and guides students in their meditation and daily life practice. She is passionate about the development of kindness and compassion in all aspects of life through the investigation of non-violence at the level of both thought and action.
Former Professor of Applied Linguistics, Dr. Stanley taught, travelled and lectured world-wide on education and intercultural communication for twenty years. She lived and taught for extensive periods of time in France, Mexico, Spain and Japan. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a specialization in reflectivity.
