Borrowing

Can I renew my books online?

At this time, there is not an option to renew your books online. Please submit renewal requests to library@myunion.edu or call us at 888.828.8557 x8747 or 802.828.8747.

What library privileges do I have if I am on a university leave of absence or withdrawn?

Library privileges such as database access and borrowing are available only to enrolled UI&U learners. You may use our book collection on-site.

How can I have books mailed to me?

If you would like to have books mailed to your home from the Gary Library, please send us an email with a list of titles. We ask that you check for availability in the online catalog.

How long will it take for my books to arrive?

The Gary Library uses various mailing methods in order to best suit our patrons. 

For patrons residing in New England:  USPS Library Mail (2-9 days)

For patrons residing outside of New England: UPS Ground (7-9 days)

For patrons residing outside of New England who live in apartment buildings or who hold P.O. Boxes: Priority Mail (2-4 days).

How do I send my books back?

In order to send your books back, please place them in a clean cardboard box or padded mailing envelope and affix the Gary Library address label that was sent along with your books.  Please see the Borrowing/Renewing page for more information on how to return your books to the library.

How do I suggest a purchase?

We welcome suggestions for book and journal purchases, as well as database subscriptions. To make a suggestion, fill out our suggestion form.

Do alumni have borrowing privileges?

At this point in time, we are not able to extend borrowing privileges to alumni.

Doctoral Learners

Can I obtain a sample comprehensive degree plan or learner summary from the library?

The library does not have any sample comprehensive degree plans or learning summaries for you to review. Further questions may be directed to the Graduate College.

When will my dissertation be published?

You can check on the status of your dissertation by contacting UMI Dissertation Publishing’s Author and School Relations team directly at 1-800-521-0600 x7020 or via email.

Alumni

The Gary Library offers two databases available to Union Institute & University alumni, which are accessible through the UI&U Alumni Membership Benefits page.

Academic Search Alumni Edition is designed for the research needs of the post-college professional. The database provides full text for more than 3,190 journals as well as indexing and abstracting for more than 8,000 journals. The database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, psychology, religion & theology, and more. Academic Search Alumni Edition also includes valuable peer-reviewed full text journals, offering critical information from many sources.

Business Source Alumni Edition is designed for the research needs of the post-college professional. The database provides more than 1,540 full text business magazines and journals, of which 770 are peer-reviewed. This database includes publications in nearly every area of business including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, econometrics, economics and more. Business Source Alumni Edition includes full text sources ranging from general periodicals to trade publications and top management journals. Additional full text sources include country economic reports, industry reports, market research reports, company profiles and more.

When submitting requests for database searching assistance via email, please let us know that you are a UI&U alumna/alumnus in the text of your email. Reference librarians are available on weekdays via telephone during normal business hours (9 am-6 pm).

 

lIFELONG Learning

The Gary Library provides a broad range of library services to individuals enrolled in Union Institute & University's Lifelong Learning Program. Although lifelong learners are not eligible to use the Gary Library’s print book collection or interlibrary loan services, lifelong learners are eligible for all other services and resources, including reference assistance and the library’s online research databases, i.e., online books, articles, and dissertations.
