Checking Out Library Materials

The Gary Library has over 45,000 books and other materials in its collection which are available for your use. You never need to visit the collection physically to use it.

How

Request directly through the online catalog or e-mail/call us with the list of items you wish to check out. We will ship them to you at no cost. To locate books and other materials held by the library, you can search our online catalog. (see Finding Books)

Please be sure to include as complete a citation as you can for your requested items.

How Long

The borrowing period for all learners is 45 days for up to 40 items at a time.

Renew or Return

Renewals may be requested via e-mail or by phone and will be granted as long as the item has not been requested by another person. Overdue materials are charged at a rate of 10 cents per day, but you have a seven day grace period before any fines will start to accumulate. You are responsible for the return shipping costs.

Place a Hold on an Item

If the book you want is checked out, you can ensure that you will be next in line to get it by placing a hold on the item. Place a hold directly in the online catalog or e-mail or call us so that we can place a hold on the item for you. If an item has a "hold" placed on it, this means that the item may not be renewed.
