From Iraq to Miami: A Soldier’s Gift is Displayed With Pride

UI&U Plaque“This plaque was presented to UI&U’s Florida Center by Sgt. First Class Michael Bloom who completed his degree in criminal justice in 2002.  The plaque bears a dedication to Union Institute & University learners past and present.  It shows the American flag and the badge that identifies his airborne division.  The flag on the plaque was flown for nine hours and eleven minutes as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Sgt. Bloom sent it to the Center while on active duty in his second tour in Iraq.  He wanted it to be a testimonial to how much the Florida Academic Center has meant to him.

Sgt. Bloom works with the Florida Department of Corrections in his civilian life.  He is married and has three children, two boys and a girl.  He has maintained a close relationship with the Center during the entire period of his active military duty.  We display it with pride and appreciation.”
