Union Institute & University is pleased to announce the recent grant award from The Salmon Foundation, Inc., of New York
“I knew when I selected to attend Union Institute & University that I would be getting a great education. But with the help of this scholarship, I will be able to further increase my chances of success. Thank you for your investment in Union and the futures of students like me.”
This generous grant will provide much-needed scholarships for learners currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program (ADP) in Vermont. The award comes during a very difficult economic situation in the U.S., when many private and family foundations have cut funding priorities or ceased their philanthropic giving altogether. The Salmon Foundation, with a focus on the importance and future of education, has recognized adult education as a critical priority in today’s society—and UI&U is proud to be recognized by the Foundation and partner with them in realization of a shared mission and vision.
Through such financial support from generous organizations like the Salmon Foundation, many adult learners are able to overcome very real financial obstacles that stand between them and access to higher education—and a college degree. The following are notes of thanks from UI&U learners who have benefitted from a Salmon Foundation scholarship in the past.

“I am a single mother and a returning college freshman. I would like to thank the donors who give to this fund for their selfless generosity. Without organizations like the Salmon Foundations, students like me would never be able to afford to return to school. Leading our children by example and showing them that there are wonderful people and organizations like your gives hope to our nation’s young people during trying and emotional economic times. I am the first person in our immediate family to ever attend college. With this opportunity, I can only hope that I will not be the last.”
“Thank you for your support of my educational endeavors! I will do my best to honor your gift by passing on the good will and generosity through my efforts to become an excellent educator.”
“I am a full-time student and the sole wage earner for my wife and six-year-old son. Working several freelance jobs and working to make a living in these difficult economic times makes it very difficult to remain in school full time. Completing my coursework generally means leaving the house at five o’clock each morning to study for two hours before I start my day’s work. It is no exaggeration to say that your gift has played a large role in my ability to stay in school this year.”
“Thank you for your generous financial award toward my continued education. It is an honor to be recognized by your foundation. Your gift will help me to recognize my dream of helping those in need through counseling and social work.”
Give to UI&U and support our learners today!
