John Beineke, Ph.D. (Ed.D. Program)
Dr. Beineke wrote the chapter "Teaching History to Adolescents," to be published in The Adolescent Reader edited by Joe DeVitis and Linda Irwin-DeVitis (Peter Lang, 2010). He also presented "William Van Til: The Last Progressive?" to the Organization of Educational Historians in October 2009 in Chicago.

Lucinda Bliss, M.F.A. (B.A. Program)
Lucinda BlissMs. Bliss was featured in a solo exhibition, Sentinels, at the University of Arizona Poetry Center in October. Her work was also included in the group exhibition, Drawing Itself: A Survey of Contemporary Practice at the Brattleboro Museum in Brattleboro, Vermont. She served as a guest critic in the MFA program for the Maine College of Art, and in November presented a lecture titled “Bandage and Rope” at the University of Arizona. Also in November at the University of Arizona, Bliss was featured in an interview and photo essay with Jennie Ziegler.

Nadell Fishman, M.F.A. (B.A. Program)
Nadell FishmanMs. Fishman has been invited to read her poems at the nation-wide Associated Writing Programs Conference 2010 in Denver, CO, in April. Only three such writers were invited to read.

Laban Hill, M.F.A. (B.A. Program)
Laban HillMr. Hill received an English Language Specialist Grant in the fall of 2009 to teach creative writing and African American literature at16 universities in the Philippines and Indonesia. This January and February, Hill will also teach creative writing at the University of Colombo, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on a Fulbright Specialist Grant. A prolific author, Hill has published more than 25 books, most recently: DJ Kool Herc: The Godfather of Hip Hop (Roaring Brook, 2011) and Dave the Potter: A Slave, An Artist, A Poet (Little Brown, 2010).

Jim Henderson, Ed.D. (Ed.D. Program)
Jim HendersonIn 2009, Dr. Henderson was named the founding director of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice. UCEA’s members include 61 international, higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children. The UCEA Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice joins just six other UCEA centers.

Jennifer Scott, Psy.D. (Psy.D. Program)
Jennifer ScottIn October, Dr. Scott presented a workshop on "Social and Cultural Competence" in Dayton, Ohio. She also submitted a proposal for presentation at the June 2010 Social Determinants of Mental Health Conference, sponsored by the Adler Institute on Social Exclusion at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. Her presentation is titled "Language as a Social Determinant of Mental Health: A Collection of Academic Papers," which includes the work of three UI&U Psy.D. learners (should we list the learners here??).

Richard Sears, Psy.D., ABPP (Psy.D. Program)
Richard SearsDr. Sears was invited to contribute an article for Natural Awakenings Magazine on freedom and responsibility. He also maintains a blog called Wise Words for the magazine. His chapter on the psychological obstacles on the spiritual path is part of a book to commemorate the 2008 World Congress on Psychology and Spirituality, which he attended in India. In addition, Dr. Sears has signed a book contract with Professional Resource Press. The book, Mindfulness in Clinical Practice, is scheduled to be published in late 2010. Dr. Sears was recently elected president of the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology. He will serve on the board as president-elect for 2010 and as president for 2011.
