Michele Hamester’s goal to become a better teacher (learn more about Michele here), is coming closer to fruition. She is just one of many grateful UI&U learners to receive a UI&U scholarship during the 2009-2010 academic year. Though their professions vary, from school teacher to dance instructor, public policy analyst to social worker, learners enroll at Union Institute & University for the same purpose: to effect change. Whether in their own lives or within the life of their communities, Union learners and alumni use their studies to make a difference. Their Union journey and their contributions beyond graduation, can be further enriched through scholarships, and your generous donations.
As we wrap up the UI&U 2009-2010 Annual Fund and prepare for a new fiscal year on July 1, it is gratifying to remember just a few faces we’ve met this year—those who have benefited from your charitable contributions to UI&U scholarship funds.
Stephanie Johnson, Ph.D. learner and artist, who will use her studies to “change my corner of the world”.
Fannie Johnson, a graduate of Cincinnati’s undergraduate program, who was living on the streets when she found a home at Union.
Dennis Tartakow, Ed.D. learner, who has committed to become a “better teacher, researcher, and more empathetic human being”.
And recipients of the Salmon Foundation scholarship awards, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.
The 2010-2011 Annual Fund campaign begins July 1. Join us this year, as hundreds did this year, in supporting UI&U learner scholarships. The results of your giving will reach far beyond these walls and into our nation’s classrooms, board rooms, and service organizations.
