Special Circumstances

An expected family contribution (or EFC) is derived from the information you provide on your FAFSA. It measures your and your family’s ability to contribute toward your educational cost.

If you have documented unusual or extenuating circumstances such as your family’s unusual medical expenses not paid by insurance, loss of employment or loss of benefits that you believe may affect your financial aid eligibility and which were not reflected on your FAFSA, you may submit a Special Circumstance form to the financial aid office. You must provide adequate and proper documentation to support your claim before the financial aid office can consider your special circumstance. The documentation requirements are included in the instructions on the Special Circumstance form.
