Two Types of Article Databases

2. Subject Databases

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject database. Subject databases specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

PsycINFO
Indexes scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations in psychology and related fields. Coverage spans from 1887 to the present, and it is published by the American Psychological Association.
ERIC
Indexes articles and other education-related resources from 1966 to the present. It is sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
